Scalp Psoriasis Home Remedy

If you’re interested in a home remedy for scalp psoriasis, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll tell you about your options.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, about half of all people with plaque psoriasis, the most common form of psoriasis, will experience psoriatic symptoms on their scalp at some point. Treating psoriasis on the scalp can be tricky because, unless you have very thin hair or are bald, your hair can get in the way. For instance, phototherapy is not very effective if you have a full head of hair. Topical treatments can be difficult to apply if you have a full head of hair, as well. Still, there are some home remedies that may help if you have psoriasis on the scalp.

Home Remedies For Scalp Psoriasis

While there are many home remedies often used for psoriasis, many of them are not often used on the scalp. For instance, some people find applying a paste made from oatmeal and water to the affected area relieves the intense itching that often accompanies psoriasis, but most people do not want to plaster oatmeal paste all over their heads, especially if they have any hair. Here are a couple of popular, and easy to use, home remedies for psoriasis on the scalp.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a common scalp psoriasis home remedy. It’s supposed to help relieve itching and discomfort. Simply rinse your scalp with apple cider vinegar after shampooing and rinsing your hair in the shower. The National Psoriasis Foundation recommends not using this remedy if the skin on your scalp is cracked or bleeding, as it may cause a burning sensation.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an essential oil extracted from the Australian plant Melaleuca alternifolia. Tea tree oil has antiseptic and antifungal properties and is often used to treat skin disorders, including psoriasis. In fact, shampoo containing tea tree oil is one of the more common, and most effective, home remedies for scalp psoriasis.

Tea tree oil can be applied to the scalp in a number of ways. You can apply a small amount of the oil directly to the affected areas, although that can be difficult to do unless you are bald or have very thin hair. A few drops of the oil can be diluted in a carrier oil, like almond oil or grapeseed oil, and then the oil can be applied to your scalp, but that’s kind of messy and makes your hair all oily unless you are bald.

The easiest way to use tea tree oil as a scalp psoriasis home remedy is in a shampoo or conditioner. You can purchase shampoos and conditioners that contain tea tree oil. If you can’t find these products where you normally purchase hair care products, visit a health food store.

Our Favorite Scalp Psoriasis Home Remedy

Our favorite home remedy for psoriasis is Terrasil Psoriasis Therapy Max ointment. We like it because it contains a unique combination of natural ingredients that work together to relieve the symptoms of psoriasis, including redness, swelling, inflammation, intense itching, pain, and scaly skin. You don’t need a prescription, it’s affordable and it’s easy to use at home.

Terrasil Psoriasis Therapy Max can be used on the scalp, and it’s effective in that area, but it can be messy unless you’re bald because it is an ointment. To minimize the mess, apply only a small amount to the scalp at night before bed and place a clean towel on your pillow for the night. Then wash your hair in the morning.

Of course, Terrasil Psoriasis Therapy Max is effective in other areas of the body as well, and it’s a bit easier to use on less hairy areas, too. To learn more about our favorite home remedy for psoriasis, follow the link above.
