Pictures Of Scabies Rash

Scabies Mite

We’d like to show you some pictures of the scabies rash to help you recognize the condition. Please keep in mind, though, that while these photos of scabies show how the rash commonly appears, some people may have an atypical presentation of the condition. If you have a rash that doesn’t resemble these photos, it’s probably not scabies, but it could be. Only a doctor can diagnose the cause of your rash for certain.

What Does Scabies Look Like?

Scabies is a condition caused by tiny mites that tunnel under the skin. You can’t see the mites, though. Usually what you can see is tiny red bumps, caused by an allergic reaction to the feces of the mites, and very fine lines on the skin indicating where the mites have been tunneling beneath the skin.

As these pictures of scabies show, the rash can be found just about anywhere on the body. However, the rash is most commonly found in places like the webbed skin between fingers, under the breasts or in the groin area, and in the bends of elbows, knees, or wrists. It can also be found frequently in areas covered by jewelry such as bracelets, rings, and watches. Sometimes small pus-filled bumps form on the soles of the feet. Very young children and elderly adults tend to have the most severe skin reactions.

A scabies rash is usually very itchy and if you scratch a lot, you may end up breaking the skin. You may then end up with sores or scabs in the area affected by scabies. Try to avoid scratching if you can, though, because scratching can spread scabies to other areas of your body.

Crusted Scabies

Sometimes a crust or large scabby area forms over the area of skin affected by scabies. This is referred to as crusted scabies or Norwegian scabies. It occurs when a person is infected by far more mites than normal. For instance, in a typical case of scabies, a person might have 15 or 20 mites beneath the skin, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. In a case of crusted scabies, however, there may be hundreds of mites present. These pictures of scabies rash show how severe the condition can be when someone has crusted scabies.

If You or a Family Member Has a Rash That Resembles These Pictures of Scabies

Scabies is a condition that will not go away without treatment. It’s also very contagious, so if you have scabies, you need to get treatment as soon as possible, not only to relieve your symptoms but also to prevent spreading the condition to people close to you.

Because scabies is so contagious, if someone in your home has the condition, there is a very good chance you’ve got it, too. Even if you have no symptoms yet, most doctors will advise you to get treatment.

Scabies is typically treated with topical medications in the form of lotions or creams. In some severe cases, doctors prescribe oral medications in pill form instead. We prefer natural treatment when possible because the risk of side effects is significantly less. Of course, we cannot prescribe treatment for you over the internet and you should see your physician if you have questions about the appropriate treatment for you or your family members.

Our preferred treatment is Naturasil Scabies Liquid, a liquid treatment that is added to bathwater. The liquid, made from all-natural plant extracts, is absorbed through your skin, where it will kill the scabies mites. Naturasil also offers a cream you can apply to your skin after bathing, which will soothe itchy, irritated skin, and relieve discomfort. Just follow the link to learn more.
